Water Rites - Joe Spatarella © 2007

I’ve known Joe Spatarella for more than five years and have enjoyed watching him grow as a singer/songwriter. On “Water Rites”, he came to me with an acoustic guitar and vocal arrangement. After he nailed that, Joe turned an idea for a bass line into a thematic counter melody. Russ Haire came in to add some tasty acoustic guitar licks including the solo. Laura Cerulli came in to add her wonderful percussion touches. Karyn Oliver stopped by and lifted the tune further with background and harmony vocals. Finally, Teporah came in to add keyboards. The mix resulted in a very richly textured song; a far cry from the simple guitar/vocal arrangement we started with.

Nothing pleases me more than being allowed to work with an artist to take a song up to a higher level while making sure it still sounds like them.
