I am very pleased to promote GOOGLE EARTH as the sole source of overhead images on this website.  In my opinion it is the best freeware available.  Click the logo below to be directed to the google earth website where you may download a version for yourself.  It is too intuitive for me to waste words trying to describe it.  

 

 

The below directions, like the rest of the site, are image driven.  For specific directions I recommend using Google Earth to map out your drive, flight, etc...  The road maps shown below mainly focus on the immediately surrounding towns & cities as well as the major highway arteries that lead to ERock.  The GPS coordinates for the top of Main Dome, the center of the park (aka, the “ant mound”) are:

If driving from Austin, I highly recommend taking Hwy 71 to Llano and then Hwy16 south until Farm Road 965.  For years I travelled via Fredericksburg but I got tired of the crazy drivers and more congested traffic.  No matter how you choose to drive to ERock, please please please drive safely and watch out for deer, racoons, possums, cattle, skunks, etc...  Especially after/during a healthy rain season when the local animal populations experience a population boom.  Roadkill is my number 2 pet peeve.  Also, if you are unfortunate enough to be in a situation where you hit an animal but did not successfully kill it, please don’t just keep driving.  Have a little soul and see if there’s something you can do or if there is a fast way to put it out of its misery.  Texas is not known for such sensitivity and that’s a shame.  After hitting a beautiful mother elk in New Mexico and not actually killing it, I vowed to carry something in my car at all times should I be so unfortunate again.  Getting to the crag is not as important as feeling a connection with nature, which is probably why you’re getting out in the first place.
