My sister and I recently had a conversation about how many things have changed in our lifetime. While we mostly love the modern conveniences, here are some of the things that I miss! Can you relate to this list? Care to add to it? Leave me a comment or email me!
*Slips. When I was young, no girl wore a dress without at least a half slip. And if you were wearing a white blouse, a camisole was de rigor! Last Easter I went to find a slip for one of my girls and not one store sold them.
*Escape! Remember when you could leave the house. . .and no one could find you? No cell phones, no pagers? Most homes didn’t even have answering machines until I was in my late teens, and Caller ID was a thing of the future.
*Rationality. As my sister and I discussed, none of our peers knew anything about designers, high end clothes or bags or haute couture when we were growing up. Now there are teenaged girls who demand Coach bags and designer duds. What happened to sensibility?
*Mystery. Remember when someone announced their pregnancy and no one asked them, “What are you having?” That would have been ridiculous! Nowadays the baby is named months before birth. I liked the surprise!
*Respect. Growing up, I had a healthy ‘fear’ of most adults. I would never dream of addressing them by their first names and being sassy to them. Sadly, that has fallen by the wayside in many kids. . .just watch the news.
