Description
This large acreage is located near the town of Baza in the province of Granada, Andalucia, Spain. The property measures 164 hectares (410 acres or 1,640,000 square meters). It is situated next to the Park Natural Sierra de Baza and is 4 km away from the nearby village of Caniles.
The land is flat and is in two elevations, the top half being mainly used for agricultural activities, and the bottom for livestock (sheep), farming and in the past .. gold mining! There are 3 officially registered buildings on site in need of complete reconstruction. Historically they were used by monks who both lived and worked there, mining for gold and raising crops and sheep. Subsequently the largest structure is registered as “Fabrica del Oro” or gold factory. This was where they processed the gold, cared for the animals and prayed in their chapel. The other main building was used as living quarters.
The top part is flat and has been cultivated and used primarily for crops. The bottom part is mainly flat with some elevations, hillocks and ravine-like features and has been used primarily for living areas and the raising of sheep. This lower half is situated near the old riverbed where subsequently a constant underground water supply can be found. There is a constructed irrigation channel built out of concrete which supplies the lower crop fields with a controlled inflow of water. There are also numerous trees on the lower part, fruit as well as the typical olive trees.
Buildings
There are 3 officially registered cortijos (farmhouses) on the property, all in a very dilapidated state, thus needing to be knocked down and rebuilt. However this automatically ensures permission to build 3 new properties, and given the immense sizes of the buildings, the new properties could be built to substantial size, and due to the size of the property, could be relocated anywhere.
Buildings 1 and 2: these are attached together and was the old Monastery, goldmine and animal shelter all under 1 roof. As such it is of immense size and measures roughly 1500 m2. This building would be ideally suited as a rural hotel, club house, main residence or something along these lines as the local town hall has expressed avid interest in seeing this property developed!
Building 3: This was the principle house that was lived in by the family who came after the time of the monks. It is a large building and is roughly 400 m2 in size.
Outbuildings: There are innumerable outbuildings, however, all in a state of disrepair and would need to be knocked down and rebuilt (if so desired).
