Academic Enrichment

The Steppingstone Academy Hartford is an academic enrichment and preparation program with a strong, gender-fair, multicultural curriculum. The Academy consists of classes during two six-week summer sessions as well as one academic year session. The 25-30 Steppingstone Scholars are divided into two classes, resulting in a 15-1 student-teacher ratio, or better. The Academy curriculum supplements Scholars’ regular schoolwork by identifying and eliminating academic weaknesses and building on academic strengths. The program is also designed to encourage Scholars to take responsibility for their learning process and helps them take risks and challenge the world around them.

Support Services

Success in education requires more than academic preparation; students – particularly urban students from marginalized groups – must also cope with social challenges that can impede their ability to thrive academically. HYSF addresses these challenges by providing support services to our Scholars and their families. Providing consistent, direct support for Scholars and their families is essential to Scholars’ success. To ensure this success HYSF makes a multi-year commitment to each child and family; we are there for them during their 14 months in the Academy, during their four years of high school, and into college.
