Are you wondering what creative ways of cheating your students might be coming up with? All they have to do is search on You Tube for cheating videos. Go to learninginhand.com/blog/ and read the Wednesday, April 2nd entry.
iTunes has just added PBS to iTunes U. There are teaching support videos and instructional content from KQED, WETA, WNET thirteen, WGBH and more. Video clips for science, geography or history (including segments from Ken Burns' documentary The War) are accompanied by PDF lesson plans and educator's guides.

While all the iTunes U PBS content is free to download and use, the PBS shows already on iTunes remain for-pay. It looks like this is only the beginning for this great resource.

To access the PBS content open up iTunes. Go to the iTunes store. Click on iTunes U in the upper left hand corner.Once in iTunes U, in the lower right Beyond Campus, click on PBS.

The answer is, “No.” You can show the YouTube video from a web browser but you cannot imbed the video in a powerpoint presentation or other multimedia.

To quote YouTube:
“Currently you can't download our videos to your computer. YouTube's video player is designed to be used within your browser as an Internet experience.”

So you can relay this information to your students when beginning their projects. It is also a good time to discuss quality and using good research skills for finding information for their project.
We have installed this converter on all the Library floor Dell computers and on some in the Library Classroom. The converter will be added to other Dells in the building in the near future. You can view the video to learn how to do this at home in case you need to open an Office 2007 document. If you have ’07 at home, the best thing is to save it as an older version of Office. That way, you can open it on any computer (Mac or Dell) in our building.

Here are a few sites that only have educational videos posted. Check them out.

Next Vista - NextVista.org

An online library of free videos for learners everywhere - find resources to help you learn just about anything, meet people who make a difference in their communities, and even discover new parts of the world. And Next Vista for Learning wants to post your educational videos online, too. Everyone has an insight to share and yours may be just what some student or teacher somewhere needs!

Teacher Tube - teachertube.com

An idea whose time has come!

Our goal is to provide an online community for sharing instructional videos. We seek to fill a need for a more educationally focused, safe venue for teachers, schools, and home learners. It is a site to provide anytime, anywhere professional development with teachers teaching teachers. As well, it is a site where teachers can post videos designed for students to view in order to learn a concept or skill.

With TeacherTube, community members can:

* Upload, tag and share videos worldwide.
* Browse hundreds of videos uploaded by community members.
* Find, join and create video groups to connect with people who have similar interests.
* Customize the experience by subscribing to member videos, saving favorites, and creating playlists.
* Integrate TeacherTube videos on websites using video embeds or APIs.
* Make videos public or private - users can elect to broadcast their videos publicly or share them privately with those they invite.

Its open source license means that many people can develop additional functionality.

Moodle has many features expected from an e-learning platform including:

* Forums
* Content managing (resources)
* Quizzes with different kinds of questions
* Blogs
* Wikis
* Database activities
* Surveys
* Chat
* Glossaries
* Peer assessment
* Multi-language support (over 60 languages are supported for the interface [2])

In real English, it is a great tool for teachers to use to communicate with their students. Students can also use it to communicate back to their teachers. Moodle is being hosted and supported by the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU). They will be providing training in using Moodle and there will also be at least one in-house trainer. More information will be coming out in the next month as to some training dates and other details. I am hoping that many will advantage of this great resource that is going to help to engage our 21st century learners.
