My name is Travis Hay. I am a professional journalist with a passion for storytelling. I’ve been freelancing for multiple Seattle-area media outlets since 2003.
On this site you’ll find samples of my work, including features, reviews and lots of photos taken at the countless concerts I’ve attended.
You’ll also find links to my award-winning music blog Ear Candy, a successful one-man operation that I manage on a volunteer basis with a readership that has grown from 1,000 unique page views a month to more than 100,000. Its success led to Ear Candy being picked up by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer as a weekly column.
While I enjoy covering music, I also enjoy covering the news so I’ve spent most of my career as a news reporter. I consider my versatility as a reporter to be one of my strengths as a journalist.
I’ve written about a parade from a clown’s perspective, covered wildfires, odd criminal cases, an alleged inappropriate teacher-student relationship and handled just about everything else under the journalistic rainbow. So you’ll find samples of my work as a news reporter here too.
