“The Mini Job” : Tracey Pereira : 2008 (20” x 30” )

This photo is a detail of a quilt I made for my husband. His favorite film is the original Italian Job made in 1969 staring Michael Caine and featuring one of his favorite cars the Mini Cooper!  Inspired by an original artwork called “The Chase” by Tony Smith, the quilt is an example of mixed media quilting and incorporates both digitised and freehand quilting. The design was ‘sketched’ using black thread on a white linen cloth and then coloured using Derwent Inktense pencils.

Quilts in the News :

Sapphire Wedding : (2m x 3m ) May 2009

Pieced by Pam Carter. Quilted by Tracey Pereira

1st place Traditional Category at Inspirations by Hungarian Blue-Dyed Textiles June 2009.

In 2008 Pam and John celebrated 45 years of marriage and to celebrate this momentous occasion Pam designed and hand pieced Sapphire Wedding using 29 different Kekfesto cotton fabrics. The repeating block is the single wedding ring, also known as the crown of thorns.  I quilted and finished the quilt for her using a variety of patterns. I have always loved  Kim Brunner’s Feathered Heart design and knew straight away that this would really suit Pam’s quilt, so I used this in all the open blocks and borders. Pam had thought of using a rope wreath design to signify rings  so I designed and digitised the Rope Wreath to fit. I added the Dove from One song needle arts because they are both avid bird lovers. The background is all freehand quilted in the body of the quilt with a semi baptist fan design and a stipple in the border.

Quilting designs are available from Digitechpatterns.com

I was thrilled to hear that Sapphire Wedding won first place in the Traditional category at the Inspirations by Hungarian Blue-Dyed Textiles this month. I am delighted for Pam and John. The exhibition will travel around Hungary until December this year and can be viewed at these locations if you are in the area.
