Jim Shurbutt
Jim joined Dr. Van Houten’s lab in the summer of 2006. He attended Jacksonville State University, Alabama where he received both his Bachelors and Masters of Science degree in Applied Psychology. While at JSU, Jim received training in both the experimental analysis of behavior, as well as applied behavior analysis. Research areas included a wide range of issues related to both the built and natural environments and the contingencies established and maintained by these environments. Campus sprawl, urban sprawl, museums and other recreational areas are a few example areas.
Currently, Jim’s interests include a variety of safety issues as they relate to both pedestrian and driver behavior:
1. Traffic calming and speed as variables of yielding behavior.
2. Impairing effects of dementia and vision on driving in aging populations.
3. Using technology to increase the physical activity levels of inner-city and/or at-risk child populations.
