It’s certainly been an eventful year for this old club but until the removal of the seconds getting a side out hadn’t really been an issue for us but that alongside injuries and absenteeisms this week it meant that come thursday evening I was left with a meagre 7 to take to SBC. Fortunately the wizards sleeve that is Pete Heff produced a moment of magic as we decided to call upon those lads who hadn’t been getting a game when the club was full, and sure enough 5 of them were up for it so we went over with 12. Andy volunteered to warm the bench, but probably won’t make that mistake again as i didn’t bring him on, and he had to be thawed out at full time.
Bank also had some changes to their team and though we looked the more dangerous first half, defences were on top. Louis and Billy caused all sorts of problems up front but our best efforts were my shot which was well over and Tias’ glancing header from Jay’s cross just wide. Nick meanwhile was untroubled in our nets and simply resembled a rather large uninterested wasp for the first 45.
I thought it might be tougher up hill into the breeze but we did keep the ball much better for the first 20 of the second half but we couldn’t get a shot on target and Bank came into it more and more. After about an hour I made a rare foray forward and following a neat one two with louis was about to pull my portly trigger when i was summarily dumped on my back in what their chap described as ‘stonewall pen’....whatever that means but gasteds were well flabbered as Hugh waved play on. SB dominated much of the last 3’rd and Nick saved well down low with the follow up hitting the bar, finally with 10 to go they scored as he pushed a cross onto the bar only for the rebound to be turned in. They should have had two but Nick saved well with his legs in a one on one with the goalscorer but i have to confess i didn’t think we would score if we were out there all day.
However me of little faith, unbelievably i was felled again in the box but made the mistake of trying to keep my weeble like frame upright and i thought our last chance had gone, but with no time left Billy and Louis combined one last time as they had been doing so well all game and the former managed to poke past the keeper for our equalizer. The relief was palpable.
So spoils were shared and it was probably about right in the end though but he end i was happier with the point than they would have been, however considering the changes to the line up it was a good effort. Lyonians next week which we must win to keep our slim hopes of promotion alive.
MOM - The two guys up front were a constant torment so Louis on debut gets the award this week.
