Goats, Goats & More Goats!
Kicking off its 4th year, the ArtForGoats09 exhibition is getting ready to party with a purpose.  By selling artworks and donating 30% of all sales to Oxfam's Unwrapped program, the twelve ArtForGoats09 artists are providing goats and chickens to families in poverty-stricken areas, such as Malawi and the Solomon Islands.  All of the charitable fun starts on Opening Night:  Monday November 9th, 6:30pm at the ArtHouse Hotel, 275 Pitt Street, Sydney.

The idea for the exhibition came from a desire to help those in need, regardless of one's income.  Artists have long been referred to as "starving" but this group believes that by using their skills, they can help those who really are.  "We can all give something, whether we donate time, money or skills, " says Laurie McKern, co-founder of the event. "Just because we don't have a seven-figure income, doesn't mean we can't help those with less.  And the giving has a ripple effect.  One goat provides milk to a family which increases their nutrition.  But the milk can also be sold to provide an income.  With an income, the family can send the children to school.  If there is more than one goat, they can be bred to provide goats to others in the community so they can also eat better, earn an income and become educated. The benefits ripple through the community."

ArtForGoats09 also provides an excellent opportunity to pick up affordable, original artwork.  The exhibition will include graphic design, mosaic artworks, paintings, photography and prints.  By purchasing artworks at ArtForGoats09, art lovers and collectors are also supporting the arts and artists in the local community.

Running from November 9 - December 5, ArtForGoats09 opens with live music, dancers and artwork prizes to be won.  The exhibition is located in the Gallery and Verge Bars on Ground Level of the ArtHouse Hotel, 275 Pitt St, Sydney.  For further information visit www.artforgoats.com.
