This work is the result of a process of self-discovery, a personal mining of images that have psychological meaning. These images usually first appear in drawings and then develop through the sculpture making process. Some of this work expresses interior feelings, and much of it focuses on relationships; between family members and friends, between the individual and society, and between the conscious and subconscious self.
How the sculpture is made
The original sculpture is made of clay and fired in a kiln. A rubber and plaster mold is made of the original piece, and the edition is cast of resin that consists of acrylic reinforced gypsum (plaster). This plaster and acrylic mix is similar in hardness to cast concrete. Each piece is individually cast and hand finished, painted, and sealed with a matte varnish. Most have a simple white shelf for wall display. All are produced in my studio in an edition of six or nine with one 'artists proof'.
