This has already hit the web, but figured I’d post it here. Above is my poster illustration for the upcoming Hughes Brothers film, The Book of Eli. I’m sure when the film is getting ready to hit the screens, the final movie poster will be a giant Denzel Washington photoshop head.
But for now, I’m really excited that Warner Bros and Alcon Entertainment will be giving these illustrated posters out at San Diego Comic-Con. Warner Bros is hosting a huge panel at the con on Friday, July 24th, at 10:00 am. They will be unveiling a teaser trailer for the new film, along with the first chapter of an on-line animated BOOK OF ELI graphic novel. The upcoming on-line stories are written by ELI's screenwriter Gary Whitta, and alternately illustrated by me and storyboard artist Chris Weston.
We will all be there at the panel, and many of us will be signing the posters at the WB booth. Keep an eye out for Denzel, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson, Gary Olman, Albert, and Allen.
I spent a few months working on this project as the concept artist. It was a really fun and rewarding challenge collaborating with Albert Hughes as we worked hard to create the visual look and feel of the film. Put another month into the on-line graphic novel, with more down the road.
Below I’ve posted the original ink drawing before I scanned and colored it with Photoshop. It’s done primarily with a brush on drawing paper. Many elements in the color version’s background were incorporated from miscellaneous concept illustrations I did last fall...
