Movie Posters are Dead
Movie Posters are Dead
Yea- And they have been for quite a while. Primarily since the induction of Photoshop to Art Directors who work in-house at a studio wanting to retain control and “save” money. The computer had made it a lot easier for the film studios to create “art by committee”, and shell out piles upon piles of interchangeable generic movie posters and (now) DVD covers.
Remember when you could look at a movie poster and get a sense of what the story might be about? Try doing that by looking through today’s newspaper- Or by browsing Best Buy’s new DVD releases. Remember when movie posters were done by illustrators? Remember when they were done by people with skill, and a sense of design and composition?
It’s bad enough when nobody seems to be willing to create a decent modern movie poster. But what’s just downright shameful, is when they toss out a beautiful illustration in place of a Photoshop nightmare.
Like we see here.....
Well I could just do this all day. I warned you of the possible rant now and then....
Below are some comps I did for a movie at Disney...
Here’s what they went with.......
