"Every day includes much more non-being than being. This is always so. One walks, eats, sees things, deals with what has to be done; the broken vacuum cleaner; ordering dinner; washing; cooking dinner. When it is a bad day the proportion of non-being is much larger."
-- Virginia Woolf

“Mindfulness practice is simple and completely feasible. Just by sitting and doing nothing, we are doing a tremendous amount.”

From the chapter Crossing The Hudson

I built the meditation pond ten years ago when we moved in. All those years I meditated, watched the fish swim, and wrote my confessions and insights in a journal. Next month we'll move, and there is little time left for me to use it.

Building the pond was not a small thing.  This is because I have no skills.  Some men are good with their hands, but not me.  I didn't inherit the 'handy' gene from my father.  The only real skill I have is listening.  I have a sign in my office that reads:  Two Ears:  No Waiting.

I'm a psychologist.
