I traveled to Japan from June 8th through June 26th, 2008 as part of the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program to learn about the culture and educational system of Japan. As a guest of the Japanese government and Ministry of Education, I will be attending various culture activities, workshops and school visits in the following locations:
Tokyo: Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka, Koishigawa Korakuen Japanese Garden, Japan Karate Association Main Dojo, Studio Ghibli, and a Seibu Lions baseball game. I have attended sessions on Japanese Government, Education, and Culture as well as listened to and met a Hiroshima A-Bomb survivor, Keijiro Mitsushima and he signed my copy of his book.
Kitori, Chiba: We visited Chiba University on Monday (I gave the “thank you for letting us visit”) speech to College of Education Faculty and Chiba University President Yasushi Saito. On Tuesday we toured Katori City, Wednesday through Friday we visited Shinshima Elementary School, Sawara Junior High School and Sawara High School (where I as asked to coach Shotokan karate to the Goju Ryu karate team).
Visit my blogs, photo albums and podcasts so I can share with you what I
learned about the education, culture, and people of Japan.
