A Meskwaki family is being sought to appear in a new documentary film according to Irene Vega, the film¹s coordinator for the Iowa Division of Latino Affairs. The film will be ³told through the eyes of middle school students² who ask their elders, ³How did we get to Iowa?
Vega said an informational booth will be set up this Saturday at the Meskwaki Powwow to explain the film, ³Made in Iowa.
In addition, an open call will be held at the Sac and Fox Tribal Center Gym on Aug. 21 from 4-7 p.m., she said.
According to a news release, the Latino Affairs division ³wants to share these stories represented by the journeys of five Iowan families from different backgrounds: Native American, European, African American, Asian and Latino.
The release says, Our hope is that this film projects the growing diversity of this state, a reflection that is faithful to the diversity that characterizes this country. Through this film, we seek to stimulate meaningful discussions among Iowans about the American experience.
