In April 2008 Pastel Artists.Ca  staged Canada’s first ever pastel symposium to celebrate its 19th anniversary.

I’ve put together this small website as a resource for those who attended my Colour Explorations workshops and for those who were busy attending one of the other events at the symposium.

One of the many advantages of soft pastel is the enormous variety of colours that are available to artists. However, this abundance does come at a cost (financial and artistic). Too much choice can lead to confusion and chaos. For every Wolf Kahn (see www.wolfkahn.com), who works a kind of alchemy when he throws together wild and seemingly disparate colours, there are a thousand mortals who fail to harness the power of colour. My mandate, in these workshops is to give students some strategies to make colour their ally.

Click on the navigation bar to see how artists have used the colours at their disposal.
