Day 30 - Post Christmas

Wow, it’s been about a month since our fire. We can hardly believe that much time has gone by. Life is returning to normal. Our new home is feeling a bit more like home--you know kids leaving their stuff everywhere, dishes needing to be washed, carpets needing to be vacuumed and the like.

We did go and get replacement pots, pans, roasting tray for our Christmas ham, and a new Kitchenaid mixer to replace the one that was cream colored and is now “charcoal black”. We had to laugh a bit because halfway into preparing Christmas dinner we realized we didn’t have a cheese grater & potato peeler. We have so much more to purchase and replace--the list is pretty long and keeps getting longer.

Christmas was an overwhelming blessing. Blessings from those we know to anonymous samaritans. Isaac and Elijah’s school set up a “giving” tree for the family. A few days before Christmas they came over and gave us their gifts, warm words and hugs. New Joy gave us gifts and many slipped us some cash or gift cards. Facebook has been amazing too. Colleen Kinghorn set up a “cause” for us--what a sweetheart. Her challenge was for her friends and her friends friends to send a dollar to bless us. Since we have received many letters and cards containing best wishes, that $1.00 and some who sent much more than a dollar--wow, the kindness of total strangers is humbling.

Regarding the house:
Our winter weather has put a big damper on our progress with the house (about 24 inches of the white stuff). We really need to line up contractors to begin bids on the re-construction. We still need to sit down with our adjuster to ascertain what State Farm’s estimates are looking like.

Prayer for wisdom in choosing a contractor, making floor plan adjustments and speed for the demo and debris removal.

That’s it for the update on our family and home. Blessings!
