In collaboration with the Western Rivers Conservancy, the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department is planning a new state park on the lower John Day River. Planners of the 16,000 acre Cottonwood Canyon Park aim to preserve the low-key, natural, intimate quality of the landscape and river. Located between Wasco and Condon on Oregon Highway 206 , the park may open as soon as 2013. I’ll be visiting this location over the next few seasons to document the river landscapes and features of the canyon.
