These mixed-media collages blend repeating themes from a lifetime of painting, printmaking and craft as well as ideas inspired by Asian art, craft and folk myths.
In the collages, stored memories and ideas emerge using cut paper and paint into the mixed-media pieces presented here. The work incorporates textural materials such as hand-made bark and marbleized papers, dyed silks, segments from hand-bound Asian poetry and other printed text and visual materials. Once formed, they are then over-painted with acrylics. Each collage has a mini-myth or story, often tongue-in-cheek and sometimes a tiny bit preposterous.
The art dolls on their own pages, which are made from polymer clays and hand worked complex cloth, ultimately led to the figures and narratives in the collages. The dolls are three dimensional narratives of their own. Each has its own accompanying story or poem grown out of visual bits and pieces from my inner world, memory fragments if you will, creations from my meandering life.
These two very different media play back and forth influencing one another.
