Statement

These contemporary “Narrative” collages are primarily inspired by Asian art, craft, and folk myths from around the world.

They are simply made from cut paper, glue, and paint. The work incorporates textural materials such as handmade bark and marbleized papers, segments from hand-bound Asian poetry, and other printed text and visual materials such as my own discarded lithographs and drawings.  I also scour old books and re-assemble various extracted parts into new images. Once formed, they are then partially overpainted with acrylics. All the collages have a mini-myth or story, usually tongue-in-cheek, and frequently a tiny bit preposterous.

The collages can be found in The Gallery, Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, Bainbridge Island, Washington, or by contacting me directly.
