City Water – what’s in it?

• Mineral Salts

• microorganisms – protozoan cysts, virus’, bacteria (opportunistic bacteria

which would be dangerous for the immune suppressed)

• metals

1. •DBP  (Disinfection ByProducts)- THM’s , HAA,  considered carcinogens ingested, skin contact or
   

inhaled.  They are formed by the chlorine and organic matter.  They don’t

know how they can get lower than 75 parts per billion…the goal is to have

zero which is impossible.

• Pharmaceuticals – this is happening because of water reuse, recycling of

sewage water.  “ Toilet to Tap “

• Natural organic matter

• Disinfectants; chlorine and chloramines (used to try to get rid of the

bacteria in the water)  Chloramine produces free ammonia.  They are

using it as a means to control the DBP’s.  Chlorine will kill fish and people

on dialysis.

• Flouride – worst thing for our kids.  It can inactivate 71 enzymes.  When the

child is iodine deficient then it affects the enzymes.

We don’t know if pharmaceuticals can be filtrated with reverse osmosis.   In

some cities they recycle sewage water and use that to water golf courses,

parks, etc.  This eventually goes back into the ground and becomes our drinking

and bathing water anyways.

Types of filtration

Reverse Osmosis with carbon filter – broad spectrum to remove all of the

contaminates to varying degrees.  It doesn’t remove all of everything though.  

Removes very little of the DBP’s (Disinfectant By Products).  They come in so

many types of machines, you must do your homework.   Maintenance is really

important on this. Changing filters and disinfecting the tank is extremely

important at least 1 x per year.  Tank needs to be drained weekly at minimum.

Distillation – Will get rid of everything even the DBP’s, leaves the water without

minerals.

The problem for the shower and bathing water is the DBP’s and Chloramines.  A

carbon filter will easily remove chlorine, but it won’t get the other compounds.

There is no whole house system that can remove all of these things.

The only practical way to do this is to use many many carbon filters in a unit.  2

large carbon POE filters, highly activated.

Ionizers give alkaline water.  Not sure if that’s the best way to go.  

Whole house RO system would be the best way to go for our homes.  

You can structure water by freezing it.

Lots of carbon will help with the DBP’s.  Special types of UV will kill DBP’s.    Not

something for the public at this time.  

Steps for water

1.  Get the stuff out – point of entry (house) – Carbon RO

2.  Rest out for drinking water – Reverse Osmosis or buy at the store

3.  Add Minerals 100-400mg/100ml

4.  Structure the water – freeze or vortex

Adding buffered vitamin C to the bathwater (less than a tsp) will eliminate the

chlorine and chloramines.

5.  Ask Water Company if you have DBP’s in the water
