My recent blog on local architectural statuary (click here to view that page) reminded me that that very style of sculpture was what had inspired quite a bit of the style of my Back Four. So I thought it would be nice to share with you just a couple of photos of some of the statues I’ve tucked into various areas of the yard.
I like them because when entwined with foliage, they’re a happy little reward for folks exploring the yard.
I also appreciate them because they add a bit of structure to a loose and winding array of flowers. It’s not exactly easy to organize Nature; Nature often has some different ideas. But things like slow-growing topiary trees, stone paths and carefully-chosen statuary can offer a little bit of extra form to plants with their own agendas.
Above we we witness the first weekly book club for cherubim. This is nestled under the lilac bush.
The lady below is opposite the St. Michael statue in the yard. They’re about the same size, so I like the visual balance they provide.
This little guy hides between a hydrangea and an azalea. Anybody climbing up to the second level of the backyard will get a wee surprise at the sight of him.
