Laura  A. Scherer

Laura Scherer's interest in Three Rivers School grew out of her friendship with several families from the Sparta, Wisconsin area whose children attend the school. She was a very playful person who delighted children and enjoyed their company.  She regularly came to student assemblies and class plays and not only contributed to school fund raising efforts, but also donated some of her beautiful quilts and other hand sewn items for our silent auctions.

Laura was an avid gardener with a degree in horticulture from The University of Wisconsin - Madison.  Her own garden in Sparta was an inspiring stop for her friends and neighbors.  The garden was filled with flowers, trees, shrubs and the tallest corn--a special interest of hers--that any of us had ever seen. It is fitting that money collected after Laura's  death in January 2006 has been used to create a memorial garden in front of the school, a pleasant and peaceful stop for Three Rivers families and the school neighborhood.
