Our Services:
Dr. Atlee graduated from the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1982. After 3 years of small animal practice in California, she returned to Davis in 1985 for a residency in veterinary dermatology. In 1987, she joined the Veterinary Dermatology Service, a referral practice in northern California. She also started a master’s program in comparative pathology, specializing in dermatopathology.
 
In 1990, after completing her MS, Dr. Atlee moved to France. She returned to the US in 1991, obtained her board certification from the American College of Veterinary Dermatology, and she started the Animal Dermatology & Allergy Center in Northern California.   Her husband’s faculty position at NCSU brought her to Raleigh in November 1994, and she has been receiving patients as part of the Animal Dermatology & Allergy Clinic since 1995.  Dr. Atlee is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine.

Currently, there are over 100 skin diseases recognized in dogs and cats, and more are identified each year.  Pets are commonly referred to the veterinary dermatologist for management of acute or chronic skin problems that include:
 
  1. atopic dermatitis (skin allergies, allergies to mites, molds, pollens)
  2. flea allergy dermatitis
  3. food allergies
  4. mite infestations (scabies, mange)
  5. skin infections with bacteria (pyoderma) or yeast (Malassezia)
  6. autoimmune skin diseases (pemphigus, lupus...)
  7. hormonal imbalances (hypothyroidism, Cushing’s disease)
  8. ear inflammation or infection (otitis)
  9. nail shedding, brittle nails
  10. anal sac disorders
  11. congenital or hereditary skin diseases
  12. skin cancers
  13. psychogenic disorders (acral lick dermatitis, self-induced hair loss)
