what are we doing in japan?

( what’s a family like you doing in a place like that? )

The short answer?  Following God’s call.  We want to be where God can use us to help people get to know his Son, Jesus Christ.  Right now we are doing it here in Japan.

a journey of a (few) thousand miles

Way back in 1997 Jon was feeling restless - he really wanted to find a job where he could travel.  Rather than having him change jobs, his boss at Nortel offered him a trip to Japan.  loved the culture, but he was struck by the sense of lostness in Japan. While in Japan, as Jon began to feel pulled toward missions in Asia, Elaine felt that God was asking her to trust him in whatever he had for her, even if that meant going to Japan.

During a telephone conversation shortly after that, Jon and Elaine both sensed God leading them into missions.  In June 1997 they sold their house, and went to Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.

Finally five years after the initial decision to follow God’s call, their family of five (above) arrived in Japan to begin life in Japan.
