Welcome to the volunteer page for Safe Haven Urban Redemption. This whole ministry has been built on volunteers whole heartedly serving God by giving of their time and resources to improve the physical and spiritual condition of our 150 year old building, and neighborhood. There is a desperate need for the love of Christ to break forth into this community and transform it for the Glory of God. We need bearers of this great love, to come and give of themselves the way Christ did for us. In this process, many volunteers leave Newark feeling that Newark did more for them, then they could have ever done for Newark. Coming face to face with the poverty and depravity in this community is one of the best things for awakening a Christ-like compassion and love for the broken and poor.
Each summer since we started reaching out to this community in 2002, we have had numerous youth groups and churches come and do mission work here. The teams that come, stay in our church building. There are showers and bathrooms, as well as class rooms that are used for sleeping. Most teams come for week long adventures and do physical work in the morning and outreach in the afternoon. Teams have done various outreaches and VBS that attract many people from the community. One team put on a VBS that had over a hundred kids come through and get a chance to hear about Jesus and feel His love. It was wonderful. Please pray about coming and serving this community. All are welcome. We will find a place for you to serve if God has given you a heart to help. High-school students are especially encouraged to volunteer with the younger kids being developed in the program.
