Every morning I wake up to the sounds of a roster crowing, a pack of dogs barking, or birds and cats walking on my roof. In other words, this place sounds just like home.
It’s Saturday morning and I don’t have class today so I thought I send you all a letter. Tony is off on a weekend adventure with a bunch of our new friends. I have plans to go to one of the most beautiful lakes in the world (Lake Atitlan) or to one of the biggest markets in Central America (Chichicastenago). In honor of my mom’s birthday which is coming up soon I think I’ll go to the market.
It’s so funny but every time I turn around there seems to be an opportunity for a fun and new adventure. If you’ve never taken a vacation to Guatemala I highly recommend it. Ladies if you’re looking for Mr. Right, come here. This town is better than Paris. In fact, guys, you should come here too. I won’t paint you a fairy scene, because Prince Charming is not riding on horseback down the cobblestone streets of Antigua. But love is in the air. And with every “buenas dias” and every smile, I fall more in love with this place. Usually, during the first week of any of my travels I get home sick... not this time. No quiero ir a me casa.
Do you remember me telling you about the volcano. Well the very next day I went hiking up a different live volcano. The lava was much more tame (thank God) So you would think that standing next to the red hot insides of this planet would be the exciting part of the trip. Not for me. It was the hike down the side of a cliff that nearly stopped me dead in my tracks.
We were high above the clouds, it was getting dark and our tour guide was asking us to walk down the cliff of this volcano. It was fun but I was so nervous couldn’t look through the lens of my camera when I took this picture :-)
Well it’s time for breakfast. I should go.
Remember while I don’t miss my home, I do miss my friends...and my family too. I hope all is well for everyone.
