IISI
The International Institute for the Study of Identities exists to promote learning, research and collegial understanding of the origins, development and influence of social identity and identities related and shaped by historical, political, cultural and technological influences. The IISI is a multidisciplinary association of international scholars, researchers and policy makers who seek to develop and deepen our understanding of the processes, structures and relationships between self, group and community.
The focus of interest is on English Identities. The historical, regional, global and cultural impact notions and symbols of Englishness have had, and continue to have, in the making of and constitution of social attachments, patterns of social relations and differences are the subjects of our interest. The IISI encompasses learning from the social sciences, arts and humanities. It has members from a range of disciplines including English Literature, Linguistics, Women’s Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, Critical Studies, Media Studies, History, Politics, Geography and Social Policy.
