Millennium Cup, Paris 2006
Millennium Cup, Paris 2006
For the second consecutive year our team took place in the biggest and most important tournament of the Millennium Series, The Millennium Cup in Paris, which up to last year was the 7man World Cup but this year the tournament in Marseille took its place and was renamed as The Millennium Cup but it didn't get much easier since there were 194 teams participating.
We found ourselves in the same place as last year or almost the same place since the venue had been moved a little bit outside the Disney Village Park, that made it harder for people who had nothing to do with sport to come and watch but it helped in other areas like expanding the trade show, players area and even the fields. The only thing we didn't like was that there were no seats for the spectators outside the 7man fields.
The draw was ready only two days before the games started, we had a really tough draw since the teams we had to face were much more experienced than us and had done really well in the last 3 events of the Series. The teams we played were :
Div3:
PMA Rush (Portugal) Overall Ranking 1st
Freakshow (Germany) Overall Ranking 3rd
MRD Com (Czech Republic) Overall Ranking 5th
Elite (France) Overall Ranking 7th
Dark Soucy (France) Overall Ranking 9th
7eme Compagnie (France) Overall Ranking 12th
Div2:
Evil Pigs (France) Overall Ranking 2nd
Rebirth Berlin (Germany) Overall Ranking 31st
Our games started on Friday at 14:00 with the German team Freakshow who had reached the finals twice. This game would surely show us how strong we would be, since we started off with the tough games. We fought hard during the game and won with the best score possible, 3/+7 with a few words, we all stayed alive. We were all more then just happy, after winning a game like that we all knew that this would be a tournament to remember.
The second game was almost an hour later with the Portuguese team PMA Rush who were at the top of the tables. We had to find out if the first game was just luck or if it really was our day! Strong break-out and the game quickly finished with us beating them with a +6 score (the player we lost was hit by a teammate). In one hour we had destroyed the 1st and 3rd best team in our division, we now had nobody to be afraid off. Next game was with Elite, we won with a 3/+2 score and that's when we started going downhill.
Next up was MRD Com from the Czech Republic, with their coach watching our first two games they knew exactly what was waiting for them. We brought the game to a 3v2 in our favor and soon it was 2v1 still in our favor but we lost because of stupid mistakes.
The last game of the day was with 7eme Compagnie who later on went on to win the tournament, we again brought the game to a 3v2 in our favor but because of a 1-4-1 our whole left side was now empty and we only had one guy in the snake which after a while also got shot.
The day finished with 3 wins and 2 losses, after the last few games we were all upset since we could off easily already qualified for the sunday club. Now if we wanted to qualify we had to win at least 2 games but that was tough since we had to play two teams from div2 and Dark Soucy who had not lost a single game the first day.
First game for day 2 was Rebirth Berlin at 8 in the morning. Most of us were not exactly ready to play. After 7 minutes the game finished as a draw. The next game was with the Evil Pigs, one of the best teams in division 2, we beat them and that was something that got us all hyped up for the last game with Dark Soucy, we had to win so that we could qualify.
The game started and we shot out their whole left side but we couldnt use that for our advantage because one of our players was eliminated for not touching his barrel on the banner and with a quick 1-4-1 we also lost our left side that was going to dominate.
Just like that,Saturday had finished for us at 11:00 am with 4 points when we needed 6 to qualify, all we could do now was wait for the other teams to finish. In the end, we didn't qualify and finished 22nd out of 50 teams.
We had mixted feelings because we showed that we could beat really good and strong teams but on the other hand we showed that we need much more experience so that we can dominate the whole way through, in the end we lost like newbies from our own stupid mistakes, as I believe that not even one team that won against us, completely destroyed us.
We would like to thank our sponsors Maxs www.maxs-sport.gr and Dexon www.dexonpaintball.gr for helping us before and during the tournament.
