Summer 2005 Tourneys
Summer 2005 Tourneys
This summer aside from our first European appearance we also attended 3 Greek tournaments. These were leg 4 and 5 of the paintball master series and the Athens summer cup leg of the Hellenic paintball league.
Athens summer cup, HPL, June 18-19
-3rd place-
This tournament was just 2 weeks before our World Cup event, thus it was a good chance for us to try certain plays and test our team. It was also one of the first tourneys we had our full-time roster after a long time. On the first day we managed to come out from the prelims on the first place. Aside from one draw against Dog's D' Amour, we scored only wins on the rest of our prelim games. Coming into the Sunday club we were playing team immortals in the semis. Overconfidence and bad decisions led us to loosing two straight games. This sent us to play against team Spartans for the 3rd place. After our disappointing performance against immortals we managed to bring our A game against Spartans and score two straight victories. This placed us in the 3rd place. Although our Saturday performance showed that we could have done better than a disappointing third place, the tournament was a nice chance to prepare our plays for the Paris world cup.
Leg 4, PBM, July 9-10
-2nd place-
This event was right the next weekend from the world cup. Our players were certainly tired after a very intense tournament and a June full of trainings. Although we could have used some time off, we had to attend this tournament since we want to attend all of the PBM events. On Saturday we played our prelims and after a very good performance the team entered the Sunday club in the first place. Although we managed to do very good on our prelims, the weather was very hot and the sun very strong. It was almost impossible to play and after our first games, coming into the field seemed more like a torture, rather than a paintball game. One of our player, Nick Loulis, suffered sunstroke and was out from the last two games were we had to play with 4 players. On Sunday the weather was no better than on Saturday. Our motivation to go and play was certainly one of the lowest that we had ever had. We just wanted to end it as quickly as possible. On the semis we played Mosquitos and scored two straight victories to go into the finals against team immortals. Although we won the first game of the finals, we dropped the following two, ending in the second place. It was the first time that loosing a game was not a disappointment just because we knew that as soon as the tournament was over Teo's swimming pool was waiting for us. Thanks to Teo for providing us a place to sleep and most of all a swimming pool with an island inflated mattress.
On a more serious note loosing a tournament is always disappointing and something that certainly ruins our day. But the weather conditions where more than extreme and brought our team down to its knees. We hope that the organizers will avoid mid-summer tourneys in the future.
Leg 5, PBM, September 10-11
-4th place-
This was certainly our worst tournament in our team's recent history. The team was only playing with 4 players since key players were abroad. Having only four players and a field that did not match our style of playing led us in loosing many prelim games. We ended up in the fourth place, which not only ruined our morale but also deprived us from key points that we needed to hold our first overall place in the paintball master series rankings.
