I always loved the challenge of creating a critter that makes sense, something that could actually exist and function in a given environment.
If a creature doesn’t make any sense, it usually takes you right off the story and looks straight down stupid.
‘The Moon and the Sun” is the last project
I worked on for the Jim Henson’ s Creature Shop.
When I moved from France to England, all I wanted to
do was to draw little monsters.

I was so excited to work on the next movie (I knew that Syd Mead was working on it already) that I decided without anyone asking me to, to show my version of some of the monsters and props talked about in the script.
This was supposed to be what would have replaced man if dinosaurs hadn’t gone extinct.
Story goes that the director didn’t want to look at any of the drawings even though I had done them for free... Oh well...
This was the first of a bunch of illustrations I did
on “spec” after long days working on an Horror
movie in Milan.
