Held in Christian communities throughout the country, the U2charist has received international attention for its innovative use of U2's biblically rich lyrics and message, for its ability to bring together people of many different generations and backgrounds in a context of worship, and as a tool for raising awareness and empowering communities to respond to the Millennium Development Goals.
Because May 11th was also Mother's Day and Pentecost, the evening's offering will be donated to charities working with mothers in the African nation of Malawi, where childbirth claims the life of one woman every hour and juvenile AIDS has reached crisis proportions.
