History and genealogy have always been opposite sides of a common coin. The catch-phrase, "History puts meat on the bones" is bringing to fruition a new realm of study known simply as family history, incorporating the best methodology of both fields. MCG&HS has traditionally served the genealogical community by publishing primary source material while providing instruction in the use of genealogical techniques. It will continue to embrace these worthy missions even as it joins a new generation of genealogists who are finding unique ways of incorporating history into their work. At the same time, on the other side of that common coin, MCG&HS historians are recognizing and incorporating genealogical techniques into their discipline. As a result, MCG&HS occupies an exciting threshold as a pioneer in an interdisciplinary approach to the study of our ancestors in an historical context.
