FIFA World Cup Quarterfinals
Wow! This has been an amazing World Cup. We are now down to the quarterfinals and the teams still alive are some of the best in the world (duh!). The quarterfinal match-ups include Germany vs Argentina, Italy vs Ukraine, England vs Portugal, and Brazil vs France.
I’m happy that my favored French team was able to make it this far by defeating Spain (although I was also rooting for Spain). The Brazil vs France game will be a match to watch. I’m confident that Germany will defeat Argentina, Italy will defeat Ukraine, and Portugal will most likely edge by England in a highly contested game. The Brazil vs France game is going to be hard to call because in 1998 France won the World Cup with much of the same team as it has now. Again, Brazil is not a team to underestimate because it can create amazing goal scoring opportunities.
I’m sure Germany will make it to the finals, but I don’t know who it will be playing against. Germany can defeat England and Portugal, but I’m sure it would have difficulty against Brazil or France. Of course, if the game came down to Germany vs France, I think most people would favor Germany and start breaking out the ‘blitzkrieg’ and WWII references to mark the historic event. Why? The final game will be held in Berlin in the same stadium where the Olympics where hosted by Hitler and the Nazis. Prepare yourself for a lot of cliches by the broadcast commentators if Germany faces off against France.
