About the Author

Terry Motycka was born and raised in a suburb of Chicago, and met her future husband there.  After their marriage they moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan, started a family, and purchased a grocery store in a small nearby town.  An avid reader, Terry found herself fascinated by the history of Kalamazoo; often caught relating historical tidbits to her family and friends, she resolved that one day she would turn those tidbits into a book. Some years later, after she and her husband sold their business, Terry began gathering facts in earnest and started laying them out in chapters.  One of the surprising facts she encountered was that in 1895 Kalamazoo had been the birthplace of a famous trotting horse.

Intrigued, Terry began to research the sketchy facts that were available, intending to write what she thought would be a short chapter.  That chapter grew into a book on its own.  The Life and Legacy of Peter The Great is Terry’s first book, and precedes the book on the history of the city, which she plans to call Kalamazoo: Things You Never Knew.  Terry and her husband Jim are blessed with two lovely adult daughters and three delightful grandchildren, who combine to not only keep them busy but to make life very special for them.  The couple has a home in Portage, Michigan, which they share with their two ‘rescued’ dogs.
