2008 Science Fair Awards

Human/Behavioral Science

We had 23 projects submitted in the category of human and behavioral science. Our judges were Dr. Lynn Plunkett, Superintendent for Floyd County Schools. and Dr. Beverly Smith, Director of Teacher Support for Floyd County Schools.

First Place Award

   
Abby Cummings
“Do children tend to have the same eye color as one of their parents?”
The judges said: “The collection of the data was recorded in an organized way, and the interpretation of the data was understandable.”

2nd Place Award
  
Bentley Smith
“Does smoking affect taste?”
The judges said: “The ideas were clearly presented.”

3rd Place Award
    
Tristen Souder
“Does humidity really change your hair?”
The judges said: “The pictures were evidence that moisture had verifiable effects on the hair. We thought the project was displayed with creativity.”


. Honorable Mention Award
   
Joshua Dempsey
“Exercise Your Heart”
The judges said: “What a surprise!  I would have thought that running would make the heart beat faster.  From your field experience I have learned that the bicycle allowed you to exert the most heart beats per minute. The pictures were great illustrations of you conducting the experiment.”
