2008 Science Fair Awards

Physical Science
  
We had 41 projects submitted in the physical science category. This was our largest category so we asked our judges to choose two winners for each award. Our judges were two professors from Shorter College, Dr. Dinty Musk, Chemistry, and Dr. Jason Ritchie, Physical Science.

“Weight Placement on a Derby Car”

Madison Spillman
“How much weight can Humpty Dumpty Hold?”
The judges said: “Strongest presentation -- the pictures of your experimental set-up were outstanding. Use of multiple eggshells with magazine weights was a nice way to generate and replicate data quickly.”

2nd Place Award
     
Claire Bettler
“Does the size of the ball influence how high it bounces?”

Hannah Murray
“Does  temperature affect the force of a magnet?”
The judges said: “The most novel project and an outstanding presentation. Paper clips were a good choice for common objects of equal mass.”

The judges said: “Great pictures helped to explain this project.”

“How does the type of surface of an inclined plane 
affect how far and fast an object rolls?”
