2008 Winners - Physical Science
 
2008 Science Fair Awards  Physical Science   We had 41 projects submitted in the physical science category. This was our largest category so we asked our judges to choose two winners for each award. Our judges were two professors from Shorter College, Dr. Dinty Musk, Chemistry, and Dr. Jason Ritchie, Physical Science. First Place Award     Ian Merritt “Weight Placement on a Derby Car” The judges said: “(comment to come)” First Place Award    Madison Spillman “How much weight can Humpty Dumpty Hold?” The judges said: “Strongest presentation -- the pictures of your experimental set-up were outstanding. Use of multiple eggshells with magazine weights was a nice way to generate and replicate data quickly.” 2nd Place Award   Claire Bettler “Does the size of the ball influence how high it bounces?” The judges said: “(comment to come)” 2nd Place Award    Hannah Murray “Does temperature affect the force of a magnet?” The judges said: “The most novel project and an outstanding presentation. Paper clips were a good choice for common objects of equal mass.” 3rd Place Award  Brady Poole “Absorb or Release” The judges said: “Great pictures helped to explain this project.” 3rd Place Award   Dylan Young “How does the type of surface of an inclined plane 
affect how far and fast an object rolls?” The judges said: “ (comment to come)” . Honorable Mention Award   Katy Copeland “Fabrics Resistant to Burning” The judges said: “(comment to come)” Honorable Mention Award  Colton Stamey “Screws or Nails?” The judges said: “This is an elegant experimental design.”
