What is podcasting?

Podcasting -- a term derived from the words "broadcasting" and "iPod" -- is a way of distributing regularly updated audio and video content over the Internet. With podcasts, you can subscribe through an RSS feed, which will automatically download updated content to your computer or MP3 player. You do not need an iPod to listen to podcasts. Any digital audio player or computer with audio-playing software can play podcasts.

How do you listen to a podcast?

You may listen to a single podcast or you can subscribe to the podcast feed and your computer will automatically download the latest episode when it is released. There is a new Ted Wells living : simple podcast each week.

How do you subscribe to a podcast?

To subscribe to a podcast you use a software application called a podcatcher or podcast aggregate. iTunes is a popular site for browsing and subscribing to podcasts, but a web search will show you others such as Odeon or Podcast Alley. The podcatcher checks the podcasts to which you are subscribed and automatically downloads new content when it's available. Once downloaded, the podcast can be transfered to your MP3 player or stored on your computer for listening whenever and wherever you like.

Ready to start listening?

I recommend Apple's iTunes for both Windows and Mac OS. iTunes is easy to use. Just subscribe to the podcast and iTunes takes care of the rest. iTunes is free, as are the Ted Wells living : simple podcasts.
