Sculptor
My work is principally influenced by organic form, material and the environment. I am interested in the geometric structures, patterns, symmetry and proportions found both in nature and the unfolding of numbers in space.
My sculptures are all individually made. I start by producing a clay maquette of the design before selecting the stone. I tend to use power tools to rough out the basic shape of the sculpture and if a polish is required; the majority of the carving is completed using hand chisels.
I design all my lettering projects in pencil and paper so they can be approved by the client before I start carving. The lettering is then cut with a hammer and chisel and can be finished with enamel paints or traditional oil gilding techniques.
Work
I undertake public and private commissions for sculpture, garden ornament and lettering; I also carve house signs, commemorative plaques and memorials. I see myself in the tradition of artist makers, carving original pieces either to commission or for exhibition.
