Goals
Our goals are to provide solutions for the challenges our students face in their lives, through engaging presentations, by those with first-hand experience in creating and delivering these solutions. We expect students to leave the week with new knowledge and skills they can begin to apply immediately to their campus and community lives to generate success while in school, and to increase their chances of success after graduation.
Presentations should be relevant to 18 to 21 year-olds and must engage them vs. selling or telling them. For these men, a sincere, first-person account is much more interesting and engaging than a lesson plan or presentation of research. Keep in mind also, the students are enjoying a winter or spring break while here. Some of the most valuable teaching time can be outside the classroom, sharing opinions and ideas.
Speaker Materials
We have fantastic speakers each year. Most are invited to present on certain topics, but we’re always looking for additional talent. Speakers pay their own expenses to be with us. We do not pay any fees or honorariums. The best we can do is give them some time in paradise while they make a difference in the lives of our students.
If you have been invited to speak, or if you want more information about the speaker experience, here’s a link to our Speaker Orientation Guide. You also are encouraged to contact the ALA Executive Director at TCP@Americanla.org, or by phone.
If you are applying to join the faculty, here are links to our Presentation Proposal Form, which should be submitted at least 60 days prior to our scheduled sessions. Download the MSWord form, complete and submit it by fax, mail or as an E-mail attachment.
Each Session of the CLE is based on a consistent pool of topics. Those who wish to speak should review the list below, to determine the topic/s for which they are most qualified. Once a topic is chosen, you may complete the Presentation Proposal Form available HERE to determine if the topic is needed for the week you wish to attend.
