Wow! Amsterdam! I understand that I visited it today...
Amsterdam is awesome. The people here are very nice and welcoming. They really understand tourism. We have had enough of the rude people on the tours and did a walking tour on our own. To get to Amsterdam by ship you have to pass through a lock. We felt the ship reverse at about 5:30 A.M. and bolted out of bed to watch it. There was no more than 21 feet on either side of the ship. Once they opened the other side of the lock we raised up to the river’s level and continued the 90 cruise to the port. When we arrived we had to go past the dock and hang a u-turn where we had only a small margin of error. We docked right next to 2 large office buildings and watched the people come to work.
We visited the Anne Frank House. What a sobering story. It is crazy what they went through. I am very glad that Mary made me go to this.
After that we decided to, once again, have some real authentic, local, pizza. We just love tasting the different local flavor of the cities that we visit.
We spent quite a bit of time walking through the Red Light District. It was very odd. Out of about 100 ‘ladies’ - maybe 3 were what I would call decent. Many looked like Grandmas in underwear, gross!
We left and headed out back to the lock and the open sea. We had our final dinner and said buh-bye to the incredible dining room staff. We then said goodbye to our friends, Dave and Lisa. Tomorrow we arrive back at Dover and head off to a 3 day visit with Mary;s sister in Cambridge, England
