Tallinn, Estonia

Tallinn, Estonia is an interesting place. We toured this on our own with Dave and Lisa. We have had enough of the guided tours. We focused on the Old Town. Tallinn is an interesting contrast of the old and new. Estonia has been occupied by the Swedes, Russians, Germans, Bolsheviks, Soviets, Germans, until 1989 when the Estonians took back their country.

We walked the Old Town and ended up in the town square for lunch. While we were eating we heard music starting. It was a festival celebrating Catalonia. There were dancers, huge figurines, and a large shark. This was the first ever celebration of the Catalonian people. They had a brilliant way to clear the center of the square. The had the shark attack the crowd. I almost got run over (several people did) - Once they cleared the area dancers came through. They had Cirque Du Soleil style costumes.

There was a nice alleyway where there was a photo on the wall showing what it looked like in 2000.

Then - 2000
Now

We wandered through the town we came upon a building and I told Dave “That is the official residence of King Olav the, um.. Third!” - He was astonished and just before he took a picture of it he turned around and saw the three of us laughing. Even a passerby told us how funny that was. Dave spent most the day calling himself a “Dumbass”

Once again, we decided to have some local food so we found and authentic Italian Trattoria and had pizza. Honestly, this was a remarkable pizza. It was like we were in Naples, Italy.

Here are some of the sights of Tallinn, Estonia
