Today was day one in St. Petersburg, Russia. We got up at 5:30 and it is now 11:00 P.M. and it is still light out.
When we arrived in Russia we felt a bit odd, slightly uneasy about being here. The feeling started to go away when we saw the Russian band waiting for us onshore. We made it through Immigration easily and found our tour bus. We spent the day with our new friends Dave and Lisa from New Jersey. The girls think that we are twins. Gross, disgusting, perverse... Imagine that, one on the left coast and one on the right.
Today our tour included St. Isaac’s Square, the Peter and Paul Fortress, a Russian Lunch with a folkloric performance, a Canal Boat Tour, and then the Hermitage Museum. We liked St. Petersburg much more than Berlin.
This night we went to a theater and watched a performance by a group of performers who danced and sang traditional Russian songs. I just love the huge guitars that they use.
After this we got back to the ship and passed out. Our feet hurt and we were exhausted. Tomorrow is another early day.
Here are the pictures.
