The Cook Islands
While on a Global Volunteer 3 week work visit to the Cook Islands, I was able to work with a group of sixteen-year-old high school students and make a 13 minute film titled "Cook Islands Student."
Using video captured on a Sony PC-1 DV camera and a Panasonic DMC-TZ1 still/video camera and a small 12 inch G4 Powerbook with iMovie6 we were able to complete the film in only 2 weeks from the first brainstorming session to the premier showing.
Everyone who has seen this film believes it is a wonderful accomplishment and should be a prototype for fostering understanding between different cultures. I hope to do the same type of work back in the USA with my local High School and begin an exchange program between schools around the world. Such exchanges can but only help the understanding we need so much in this war-torn world. If we begin with the children and let them become ambassadors of friendship, we may make a dent in the strife we read about all too much in the daily news.
