Where do I begin? After Bailey passed away on January 21, 2007...I searched the internet for some information that would help me understand what happened to him, what signs I missed, or what I could have done wrong. I wasn’t able to determine his cause of death. I feel silly for missing him so much...but I think there are enough animal lovers out there that will understand.
It was during the search that I found www.varabbit.com. A bunny rescue. I figured it would be a week or so before anyone returned my email, if I was lucky. However within minutes of my email, John Doub called. He had to leave a message because I was on the phone. He was sensitive to my loss because he had a very similar experience...which lead him to found Virginia Rabbit, Inc. You’ll have to go check out the site and read about his bunny. www.varabbit.com
Happily Pixie was placed in my care, as a foster bunny, on Saturday, January 27th. John’s daughter Ashleigh recommended Pixie Sticks. She had a flaw though...maybe it kept her from being adopted. Her front teeth grew in crooked and caused her to stop eating. So they had to keep trimming them. John offered to pay for the surgery to remove them, if I took her. Well, it didn’t take me long to decide...because Pixie Sticks had a very sweet disposition. A little shy but very sweet.
On Friday, February 9, Pixie Sticks had 3 of her teeth pulled. The other one is broken off at the gum line. We’ll have to deal with it if it starts to grow. She went through surgery very well according to her doctor, Bonnie Brown, of Jolly Pond Veterinary in Williamsburg. As of tonight, (Feb 9) she is resting. She tried to eat some hay but gave that up. Everything appears to be okay. She has antibiotics and pain medication to take tomorrow. I’ll let you know how that goes.
February 23. I’m so happy to report that Pixie is doing very well. She is acting happy and settling into her new lifestyle. She still doesn’t like to be whisked from her crate...it will take time and patience on my part. I’m very lucky to have such wonderful animals! There are more pictures of her on the photos page.
