Book-Making Workshop
A journal is a special companion that can help us give shape to our thoughts as well as release them so we can go on to new places and experiences in our lives. Creating a book to hold our thoughts and feelings is an act of healing. Participants in this workshop experiment the joy of creating a book from a few easy to find materials, and take with them both a beautiful journal and the knowledge to continue to create books at home. In this workshop we also explore an easy but powerful poetry exercise as well as a visual arts activity to create the cover of the book. No previous experience necessary.
Miniature Book Workshop
Same as above, but in this workshop you create a miniature book and a poem to go with it in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.
Tile Painting
In this workshop we explore tile painting while at the same time creating an image that includes expressive use of color and text. Participants are guided in transferring a drawing to a tile. They are then guided in using tile paints to color their drawing and create text designs.
Painting, Colors and Healing
Back when we were 4 years old, we all enjoyed the magical qualities of color. But as time passes, many people became afraid of visual arts. Although many of us have continued to love color and art, as we grow we come to believe that art must be realistic or that we should engage in it only if we have a special "talent." In this workshop, we learn how to use color for the sole purpose of feeling it and enjoying it. We concentrate on this feeling to promote and create healing in our life, and we complete our work by creating an abstract symbol that contains an intention for our life. The only talent or experience required is knowing how to write the alphabet... And we can help you with that too!
Painting Mary Magdalene
Mary Magdalene has a rich history and symbolism in the Christian tradition and in the lives of women. In this century, literature and research have shed light onto her, unveiling her symbolism and unearthing her history as the beloved apostle of Jesus, as the lost bride or even a Christian Goddess. In this workshop, we talk about the different theories about Mary Magdalene, explore her attributes, and create an icon based on the spiritual practice of iconography which, in the Christian Orthodox tradition, is a form of prayerful meditation. We will draw, paint and embellish our own icon of Mary Magdalene, and explore how the creation of art can help us achieve peace and a meditative state. No experience or previous knowledge is necessary.
