One of our earliest forays into commercial boating was the carriage of crude limejuice for L. Rose at Boxmoor on the Grand Union Canal. In April 1981 Peter Thompson, who among his numerous other attributes is a fine amateur film maker, came with us on a complete round trip shortly before the company relocated and the traffic ceased. The film stock was then lost, but it has recently turned up and we are soon turning this unique record of one of the last regular narrowboat freights into a DVD.
And finally four books published by the French Stationary Office
and NOT sold by us but which may be of interest:
 
1:    Réglement Particulier - supposed to be held on board, and which relate to each individual waterway,                          
       detailing lock and bridge sizes, speed limits etc.
2:    Textes réglementaires concerning certification for steering a boat in France (and penalties for failure
       to have one!)
3:    Textes réglementaires concerning commercial vessels, which contains very useful plan of a péniche
       with all the constructiion detail identified in French - very valuable in a French speaking boatyard.
 
4:    Navigation Intèrieure, Règlement Général de Police - along with the above mentioned Règlement Particulier        
       these are supposed to be held on board. They are the regulations governing waterways and navigation.    
       Although not available in print the 140 page 2003 edition can be downloaded from the gouv.fr website.
