after playing at findley’s tonight, i was relaxing a little bit before calling it a night, checking out the food channel... i had never seen “food nation with bobby flay” but it was what was on so i left it on... and boy am i glad i did
the very first segment was on the peninsula grill in charleston, SC and to my delight, the head chef is an old buddy of mine... bob carter
i knew bob in the early 90’s in knoxville where he was a chef at the inn at blackberry farms... blackberry farms is a marvelous bed & breakfast located in walland, TN where i had played many of their corporate events.... if you are EVER in the area, it is a world class experience
bob is a great chef, a great baker and a hell of a guy... after leaving tennesse, bob went to key west to be head chef at the marquesa on simonton st.
i visited bob during his stay there and had many VERY memorable (and a few extremely blurry) stories to tell... but, of course, i can’t tell there here....
i can’t wait for an excuse to play anywhere near charleston so i can visit with bob and eat at the peninsula grill!

Findley’s pub

milan & I played our first show at findley’s friday... what a great night... by the time we arrived, the front room was already full of folks that had come to see us! old friends, new friends, out-of-town friends and family members certainly gave us a “home field” advantage
it is ALWAYS fun picking with milan and friday was no exception... any style, milan is on it... we had folks singing, drumming, boat songing and dancing
and remember, you DONE at midnight! can’t wait to see what saturday brings!!

thursday night was my return to the new smoky mountain brewery in knoxville... i played there the first 2 nights they were opened and enjoyed it quite a bit.... thursday was no different! i really like the atmosphere... the stage is between the bar and the restaurant, accessible to both, and the staff is great... j. luke sang a song with me and josh and i had a long discussion about how difficult it is to find cool clothes in our sizes and not fitting in most cars
friday night was WILD!! i got there early and had dinner with some old friends... THEY had gotten there even earlier since there had been an hour wait for tables since 5:30... the night was non stop fun... girls on stage, cheerleaders, several friends i hadn’t seen in a long time making an appearance, a bit of tequila and accidentally sitting at table #116... also a great “if i had a boat” night
saturday i was at paul’s oasis... years ago, that venue (under different management) had been my regular sunday night show... tod sheley and tony ingram are both veterans of that era... since paul has taken over, the oasis had really found a groove... it has great bartenders and lots of “regulars”... it’s always fun playing there... big ben was in town so the “brass section” sat in for a couple tunes, ronnie remembered all her requests, joe got a lap dance and i did a “ramsey dance” impression!
sunday at quaker steak and lube was totally out of control... most of my sunday nighters were there, 2 birthdays, one very inebriated strip show, another insisting it was OK to drive, jason and joe both singing one, robin “stealing kisses” and rule #2... quite entertaining!
monday at buffalo wild wings was fun... STILL no hanson... go figure
all in all, i survived 5 shows in 5 days and BIG fun in the process...

friday night was BUSY at hemingway’s... the crowd definitely kept me going, 2 birthdays, including my friend mary olsen, and a couple “back in the day” fans from MTSU who live in marietta now...a good night!
ok... friday was busy... saturday was WILD! cecil made quite an appearance, the spanish guys (who spoke virtually no english) got photos made with all the pretty girls, i had to deal with a “stage wife” and linda reminded us all that it was indeed mardi gras weekend (sorry, i can’t post THOSE photos!)
i love this bar...

playing at Lulu’s and a book signing

in march crawdaddy and i are playing at stars fell on alabama a parrothead event that takes place in and around orange beach, alabama... this is our second time at this event and this year, for the first time ever, the event was SOLD OUT by october of the previous year!! in addition to playing at the island house on friday the 7th at 1:30 pm, i am doing a solo show at lucy buffett’s restaurant “Lulu’s” on thursday the 6th at 5pm
i was also asked to play at the page and palette in fairhope on friday the 7th from 6 until 8 for the book signing of lucy buffett’s new cookbook crazy sista cooking. it is quite an honour... a great time will be had by all... if you are in the area, stop in to get a book signed and listen to a few tunes!
